2017 The Engineer Merlot
Once Professor of Mechanical Engineering at the University of South Australia, Terry retired from the post to pursue his passion for wine. He has used his technical prowess to develop the winery and vineyard to the highest quality. This merlot is a structural masterpiece of a different kind and has been called “The Engineer” in honour of all of Terry’s hard work.
The 2017 “The Engineer” Merlot is named after the family patriarch, Terry Riley, who used to be Professor of Mechanical Engineering at Uni SA before retiring to grow grapes.
It is made from premium, single vineyard grapes grown in the cool climate of Eden Valley. This wine has dainty plum and blackberry aromas along with a hint of vanillin oak.
The palate is delightful with silky-smooth, graceful and svelte plum flavours with a tight finish that really lingers on the palate.
2016 The Engineer Merlot
The grapes were hand harvested, fermented then gently pressed in our traditional basket press before maturing for 18 months in older French oak barrels.
This wine is beautiful right now, however, if properly cellared, it will continue to evolve over the next 2-3 years as it matures, to become an iconic South Australian Merlot.
At present, this wine is an ideal accompaniment for all but the spiciest of food dishes, and as it ages will become even more satisfying to enjoy on its own.
